During the 30th Anniversary of National Chemistry Week, CaSTL and members of Alpha Chi Sigma hosted a hands-on booth at the Annual San Diego ChemExpo, a science event for middle and high school students sponsored by the American Chemical Society San Diego Section held at San Diego Miramar College.

Wilson Ho received the 2018 Joseph F. Keithley APS Award for Advances in Measurement Science for the design and construction of scanning probe instruments, "including the development of inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy at the single atom and single spin limit".

The Director of Education, Outreach, and Diversity (EOD), Danielle Watt, partnered with the other NSF Centers for Chemical Innovation to host a booth to recruit students for summer research and graduate programs at the 2017 SACNAS Confernece on Oct. 18 - 21 in Salt Lake City, UT.

CaSTL EOD, Danielle Watt, and UCI neuroscience grad student, Angeline Eugene, conducted hands-on activities, which included the Spectrobox to learn about the properties of light, DNA extraction from a banana, and Bond Breaker, with 6-7th graders at the first annual STEM Fun Day at Friendship Baptist Church.

The Board of Directors of The Optical Society (OSA) elected Prof. Potma a Fellow of the Society during their September 18, 2017 meeting in Washington, DC. He is being recognized "For pioneering contributions to the development coherent nonlinear Raman and sum frequency generation microscopy and for the use of plasmonic enhancement of coherent Raman scattering for single molecule Raman spectroscopy". Congratulations, Eric!

The perspective article published by Hrvoje Petek and his group appeared on the September 21, 2017 cover of the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters.
